Why Your Name Will Be Forgotten!

Face the Fear. Conquer the Challenges

My favourite scene in the movie Troy is where a kid goes to find Achilles so he can fight this huge warrior. The kid tells Achilles that his opponent is so big he wouldn’t dare fight him. Achilles looks at the kid and says, “That’s why no one will remember your name.”

It’s a good reminder: if you don’t take risks and step up, people will forget you. In Cuba, there’s a saying, “De los cobardes no se ha escrito nada,” which means no one writes stories about cowards. A friend told me when she got scared her Father would say this to her. He said if building a business or writing a book was easy, everyone would do it.

We all face problems. Sometimes, they seem too big to handle. But how you deal with them shows who you are. When you push through, you make a name for yourself. You become that person whose name everyone knows.

That’s why no one will remember your name.

Achilles

Back in the day, I played rugby for Palmyra. I was on the second-grade team and we played a rival team three times that year. I remember the finals clearly. Every time I got the ball, I would hear, “Q’s got the ball!” from the other team. “Watch Q! Watch Q! Q’s got the ball!” They had studied my game throughout our previous battles and knew I was a threat.

I took this same energy into business. I wanted to be the guy who, when I walked into a room, people would go, “Oh, no. Q’s here.” If we were competing for a sale or if we had to prospect door to door and they other side knew me, they’d say, “Fuck! Q’s here. We need to step up.” I want you to be that person in your field. Whether it’s business, the gym, photography, getting on the phones or anything else, I want you to walk into a room and have everyone think, “Oh no, Sam's here,” or “Shit just got real, Katie’s here!”

Make sure your name means something. Be someone whose presence commands respect. Your reputation should make you a big deal.

So, whatever you do, be that person. Make your name synonymous to hard work, success and respect. Be the one they remember, the one they talk about. Make sure your name matters. Be known for what you do and how well you do it.
